Red & Green vertical line on screen

Hi Guys

i am currently working on a MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.26 13" mid 2009

It has 2 vertical lines on screen one green one red i did take a screenshot to show you but the lines dont appear on the screenshot i took

They are not together but are about 2 inches apart about an inch either side of the centre of the screen

Would this be a problem with the LCD & not the graphics card?

Is there any way i can check or test this?

Thanks for any help you can give

OK next problem

They dont have the original installation disks that came with the MBP they do have a retail snow leopard installation disk which they used to upgrade to snow leopard

Guess what my next question is going to be how can i get AHT to run it doesnt appear to be on the retail disks

Can i use my lion or mountain lion recovery usb drive to run AHT?

Creating a recovery partition for lion is not a problem on a USB stick

You will need an original installation disk in order to run the Apple Hardware Test per this document:

I think the definitive resolution lies at the Apple store genius bar.

You are correct about creating a Lion OS thumb drive. I used these instructions:

Ciao.

Hi guys

bit of an update but now a bit of personal discovery

I replaced the LCD on the Macbook Pro which fixed the lines issue so that is now back with a happy customer.

But i want to look at this AHT a bit more & i'm wondering if there could be any way to create a disk/usb that carries the AHT for older Macs

Whilst digging around the interweb i found this

http://rivenbyfive.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/download-and-run-apple-hardware-test.h tml

None of this is complicated exept for one thing maybe i just cant see the wood for the trees but they are identifying Macs with a code beggining with F ie: F22788C8

Where or how do i find this on a Mac i have never had to identify a Mac with any code beggining with F

Thanks

Makes no sense, since it is Machine specific. The solution has already been stated above, order the replacement DVD's that shipped with that machine.

Hi Leroy

So what your saying is everytime i get a customer wanting a repair who doesnt have the original installation disks i have to order them?

a lot of my clients still have older macbook & macbook pro's & a lot of them were given them as company machines so the original instalation disks will definatly not be around

Up till now it has just been HD replacements or RAM upgrades so have not really had to use any form of diagnostics

If i had access to the original installers i would have done it & as stated i am not located near an Apple retail store to take advantage of the genius bar

I dont see why its an issue to get hold of a diagnostic tool for Mac machines whether its the Apple AHT or a 3rd party app

This unfortunately for you is how Apple has decided to implement the AHT over the years. Older Macs must use the original install disks and newer ones can use the test by starting with the D key pressed. Not with certainty, i believe the dividing year is 2009. I suspect the the intent was for each individual owner to run the test rather than design it as a tool for commercial users to be used on multiple Macs.

Here is some additional information on the test as it relates to certain Macs:
