Because no cable lock will prevent a $10 bolt cutter from liberating your $3000 machine?

Gotta agree with John here. Don't spend $3,000 on a computer and then leave it unattended with just a cable anchoring it to something. That can end quite poorly. Even if a potential thief isn't carrying around cable cutters, people have been known to try to yank machines free and similar things, and even if unsuccessful, that sort of thing can leave you with a $3,000 hunk of useless metal. Or some passing klutz could just spill something on it or knock it off the table. Using those cables gives a major false sense of security. If you have to go somewhere, tuck the machine back in the bag and carry it with you.

Well, my guess is that this kind of lock is hardly ever used by normal users.

The point is that, except for some real good stuff like Kensington Microsaver (it states company will give you a new loptop if one locked with their cable is stolen), most of these locks are "symbolic" protections that do nothing but pretend you're safe.

So, I think Apple decided to use the space better.

Not saying that I agree, though.

I have a sticker on mine that says. "This MacBook protected by 45ACP." It does the trick. 😉
