Please help, tried to download the remote app to my I pad but now my apple remote is not working or my app is not pairing. What to do

Was the app working before or did you just install it? You need to have home-sharing enabled and be on the same network for it to connect, which would need to be done with the remote.
The app never connected we turned on home sharing on both Apple TV and the app and still nothing. Now the Apple TV remote will not work. We can't even turn on Apple TV to pair the remote again
I tried to install the remote app on my iPad, but can not connect it and now my apple remote is not working either. Any help is good.
