When I plug it back in, it turns on right away, not the normal 3-5 minute wait and be at 5%. My phone will turn on right away and itll be at the same percentage it was when it "died".

The point of shutdown can vary...mine is usually between 1%-5% if I allow it to drop that low. I normally charge anytime it drops below 50% since I really don't like it to shutdown when I need it the most.
So meaning an iPhones battery shutdown can vary? It doesn't have to die at exaclty 0%?
You never want to run a lithium ion battery to 0%. The device, to protect the battery, is designed to shut off before then. What you're seeing is expected behavior.
It shouldn't die at 0%, a Lithium-Ion battery should never be discharged to zero charge. Forcing that can seriously damage the battery.
My phone dies at 9-6%, but not at the normal 0%. Help?
