Worth Fixing?

I have a Macbook 2008. Theres 2 problems with it. One the screen has a crack down the middle from top to bottom. Doesnt bother much and dont notice it too much. The main problem is that it can barely hold a charge and when I have it plugged into the charger sometimes it will charge and other times I have to play around with it. Is it worth it to get a new battery and charger and also maybe fix the screen on the side. The screen is not important but the battery and charger are. I dont feel like paying 1200 for another macbook and I dont mind paying a couple of hundred to get it fixed.
