The AirPort Extreme is a router that you can't connect wirelessly to other routers, unless you connect it to another AirPort Base Station and you want to use the AirPort Extreme to extend the wireless network
Can airport extreme connect wirelessly to another router?
Yes, but unless you are connecting to another Apple router, you will not be able to "extend" the wireless signal using wireless only....if that is your goal.
Please clarify on what you are trying to accomplish and what devices will be used with the AirPort Extreme.
Can it extend the current wireless network operating from a Netgear N600. I just want to be able to connect a HP Color Laser and make it availble across the current network. Plus if the current router dies I would have the AE inplace to take its place
Theoretically, it won't work with third-party routers, only with another AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule. See > https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3896483?start=0&tstart=0
mende1 is correct, but if you used Powerline adapters and bridge mode this would allow you to extend the network.

I believe that we already answered that......

There are other options to extend using the AirPort Extreme, but wireless is not one of them.
My goal is not to "Extend" just connect too current "wireless" network and attach a printer that would be accessable to all on network.
You can't connect an AirPort Extreme to another router to use a printer. Also, the AirPort Extreme can only connect to another router wirelessly using the extend feature
Yes you can. Install AirPort Utility 5.6 and the hidden "join" option will appear.
http://macintoshdesktop.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/airport-utility-56-and-mountain-l ion.html will help you if you're on Mountain Lion.
Not even if the printer in plugged into the Airport Extreme?
Read my above post, it is possible. It will just be *very* slow if you attach an external HDD in the future, so don't use "join" if this may be true.
Thanks Al. I wil give esex67's option a try. Or maybe just use the Airport Extreme to replace Netgear all together
You are welcome
