Re-Installing OS

I have a iMac G5 that is currently running OS X 10.4.11 and it keeps quitting on me causing my computer to freeze up and needing to be focred to power down. If I reinstall the OS will that clear out everything on the computer such as other programs and any files on teh computer? Please help.
