My ipad mini screen has gone dark. I can see the content on teh screen but it is very dim.

Please click on Settings->Brightness & Wallpaper
From here you can adjust the brightness - is Auto-Brightness turned on? I sometimes find this can be a little glitchy at times, so you may want to turn this off and just adjust the brightness as is.

Oh dear, was the iPad ok when you first used it?
Not heard back from you yet, but if iPad was okay initially give this a try: with the iPad turned on press and hold down the Home key (Square icon) and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 10 secs, you should see the Apple logo appear on screen - brightness permitting of course.

It's also possible that you have automatic brightness turned on. In the dark, the brightness on my iPhone is too dark so I've stoped using the automatic setting. Try putting the iPad under direct light. This might give you enough brightness to find the settings at least. If it does, turn off auto brightness in the settings and see if that helps.
