27" 2012 iMac Screen Burn

Hi all,

Last year, I jumped at the chance to order one of the new 27" 2012 iMacs with a Fusion Drive within minutes of preorders going live, however I have had major issues with the product.

After having my new iMac for exactly one month and one day, I noticed that it had developed some form of screen burn, and the display showed a large, red box which seemed to be burnt onto the screen. I am not quite sure how this has happened, as I always activate a screensaver on my iMac, as well as setting up a Hot Corner to turn the display off and automatically set the display to time out after being inactive for three minutes.

I immediately contacted AppleCare, who have been excellent, and sent me out a brand new, custom-built iMac within a fortnight. I received this replacement iMac on Friday 8 February.

Unfortunately, I noticed this Monday (11 Feb) that the replacement iMac has the exact same problem, however it seems to be even worse! I've attached images of the issue on the new, replacement iMac.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

I have seen lots of iMacs with that problem. Unfortunately, the only solution, as it's a hardware issue, is to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and get a new iMac for free. If it has got the same problem, repeat the same process until you get a computer that works properly. That's just bad luck

I have the same problem, it goes on re-start so haven't contacted Apple yet. I have had my 27" for about a month, also a custom build:

3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

24GB 1600 MHz DDR3

GeForce GTX 675MX 1024MB

It is a real pain when you are designing as it shows over mid tone colours, not visible so much on white or very dark colours though.

Just wonder if the graphics card may be the problem?
