Remote control resumes -6 seconds

Hello,

I use the remote to pause and resume foreign language mp3s in iTunes. If I pause it at 30 seconds, I want it to resume at 30 seconds, but it will go back to 24 seconds and I'm listening to what I just heard. I don't see anything in iTunes to set it to resume exactly where it was paused. Is there a way to to set it to do this, such as some key combination on the remote control? There must be since the other day I think I accidently found it since it was resuming where it was paused for an entire 15 minute mp3 that I paused about 30 times. However, the next time I used it, it was back to reversing the mp3 back 6 seconds before resuming.

Thanks & Regards,

Lance

Does the same thing happen when you use the arrow keys instead of the remote?

Hello Klaus1,

I tried the pause button directly in iTunes and it also set the mp3 back 6 seconds and then resumed. But then I found out something very interesting. Every other mp3 I paused, such as songs, audiobooks, and even other foreign language study mp3s, resumed exactly where it was paused. So it looks like the mp3 itself is the reason. They must have purposely done that for some reason. That's a bummer because it certainly isn't what I want it to do. I will contact the company to inquire about that. Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Here's an update on this resume issue that I reported. It looks like it's the way the mp3s are encoded. The germanpod101 mp3 that resumed where it was paused at was encoded with Fraunhofer and the ones that go back 6 seconds and resume from there were encoded with LAME3.98. And unfortunately, the vast majority of these mp3s are encoded with LAME3.98. I also discovered that these LAME3.98 mp3s go back to defined marks when the pause is resumed. For example, if I pause the mp3 anywhere between 9 and 18 seconds, it goes back to 8 seconds and resumes, if I pause it between 19 and 26 seconds, it goes back to 18 seconds and resumes, and so on. So that't the story. It appears to be in the encoding.

So if anyone knows a utility or a way that I can convert the LAME3.98 TO Fraunhofer, or remove these set marks, I would appreciate if they could pass along the information.

Thanks & Regards,

Lance
