My screen dims intermittently to almost completely dark, it goes away when I press the top button but, it is annoying. what is wrong?
iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.1
Just before screen lock engages and the iPhone goes to sleep the screen will darken. That is normal.
This is not it. it gets much darker than that and sometimes it happens right after I turn it on. It is nothing normal, I don't think.
Try the standard trouble-shooting steps: Restart, Reset, Restore. If these don't solve the issue then you may have a hardware probem. If so, contact Apple Support.
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPhone shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"
Restore: Use iTunes on your computer to Restore your iPhone to as new.
I am fairly sure it is a hardware problem but, I cannot repeat it to take it to Apple. When it happens I can push the on/off button and it comes back on but, it is annoying.
