Library lost? Itunes & Serato Scratch Live

I recently transferred my library to a new macbook. I had a friend and fellow dj help me with the transfer since he is much more computer savvy than I am. I am running itunes 11.0.1. Today I analyzed my files in serato. When serato was done, I closed serato then went to open itunes. I clicked on itunes and I got a prompt saying I needed to choose a library. It said it was looking for 'library.itl' but it wasn't in the itunes folder where it is supposed to be. I tried choosing the 'itunes library.itl' file but it didn't let me. I tried renaming 'itunes library.itl' to just 'library.itl' but it didn't let me. All of my files etc are in the same place but now I can't load my music in itunes... PLEASE HELP!!
