Software Update offers software for download but then fails

When I go to print a document, Software Update tells me

"Would you like to download and install software for hp psc 2300 series?"

I click OK, and Software Update displays

"Finding Software"

then

"The software is currently unavailable"

I have tried this multiple times over a few weeks and it recurrs each time.

How do I get rid of this superfluous message?

Hi Mike,

Try resetting the printing system and check if that may help:

If the same persists try removing the driver package as following:

  1. From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD icon.
  2. go to Library > Printers, Right-click the HP folder, and then select Move to Trash .
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK . Wait for authentication to complete.
  3. Open PPDs > Contents > Resources. Locate your printer model in the list, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash .
Be sure to search and remove for both PSC 2300 and PSC 2350 within this folder (if exists).

When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK . Wait for authentication to complete.

Now try adding the printer under System Preferences > Print & Scan and check for any change.

If there is still no change install the latest HP Printer Drivers v2.13:

I believe that any of the methods above should resolve the problem you are facing.
