Why is my Mac book Air overheating?

My MacBook seems to get incredibly warm when I go on certain applications (normally games) to a point where I have to shut it down.

I have a cooling mat which normally works but even this dosen't seem to cool it down any more.

Does anyone have any idea how I can stop this?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Processor intensive activities like playing games can produce heat and fan running at higher rpm.

Check Activity Monitor.

Choose the method for:

Best.
