    A) Is the device you're trying to pair with in discoverable mode?

    B) Does the device you're trying to pair with support one or more of the supported bluetooth profiles? You can not pair it with a computer or another phone with the exception of tethering the Internet connection to your computer.

Is the device you are trying to pair with in discoverable (pairing) mode? If it's not, the phone will never be able to see it.

You did not answer either one of Tims questions.

hard to help if you will not provide info.

    He asked:

" Is the device you're trying to pair with in discoverable mode?"

    and

"Does the device you're trying to pair with support one or more of the supported bluetooth profiles?"

this is the proceedure  i am carrying out and what my iphone is showing.

    1). after entering settings,

2). i tap the "bluetooth" icon , (currently reading "OFF")

3). i then slide the off button to "ON".

4). screen then shows:-     Bluetooth ON

underneath the bluetooth ON box it shows an heading:-

                                          Devices

    underneath the devices box:-

Searching.....       (screen shows searching icon) so it is trying

and that is all i am getting..      having tried 3 different devices to pair and none of them are appearing in the discoverable box

    Again,

Are those devices in discover mode?

It cannot discover the devices if they are not in discover mode.

What devices are you trying to connect to?

I don't care what you're doing on the phone. Is the DEVICE YOU ARE TRYING TO PAIR WITH IN DISCOVERABLE MODE?

Read the manual for the device you are trying to pair with.

Read the manual for the device you want to pair with to find out how to put it in discoverable (pairing) mode. If the device is not in discoverable mode, the phone will never be able to find it.

I know I am going to regret this ...........

So it all used to work but now doesn't after updating the iOS ???

Did you update using over the air or through iTunes plugged into a PC/Mac

if over the air try a restore of the iPhone using a backup

BUT first try deleting all bluetooth connections on the iPhone

Settings >>>bluetooth>>>pick each device press small blue arrow on right

    >> forget this device

Do for each one and then start from scratch again following advice you have been given
