since taking my macbook air to the apple store to have the data transfered onto my external hard drive. have noticed that all of the icons are missing. EXAMPLE:when i write an email, the little boxes that should say, 'send' 'delete' etc, these are now EMPTY.
How can i get them back?
MacBook Air
Click "View" menu in the Mail menu bar.
Select "Show Favorites Bar" from the the dropdown.
The last but one entry in dropdown.

Start composing a message.
"New Message" pane should open up.
Click the "View" menu in the menu bar.
Is there any "Show Toolbar" menu in the dropdown. If so, select it.
Select "Customize Toolbar" and drag the items you want into the Toolbar.

can you see that the little icons are empty? dont know where they have gone? when im emailing i cant tell which one is send/delete/forward unless i hazard a guess.

Is this what you see in Mail?
If that is the problem, you can do what dominic23 has already advised.
Click on View, then click on Show Toolbar (fourth item from bottom of the list).
Unfortunately images are not visible. So I have to guess.
Launch Mail. Click "View" menu in the menu bar.
From the dropdown select "Customize Toolbar".
Sheet will drop down.
At the left bottom of the dropdown, there is a box "Show".
Click inside and select "Icon and Text".
Start to compose a message a do the same.

Thank you for being so patient. The problem i have is that the box that Dominic is showing above is empty on my computer. There are no icons on anything. For example, you can see the word 'send' and the paper aeroplane on it, well on my screen its just an empty box. So i have to guess what they all are. Im trying to send you a pic to explain, but when i do it doesnt save. So frustrating. Thank you for you help
Hi Tazer,
To take a picture of your screen, hold down: Command, Control, Shift, 4, and press the spacebar. The screen will become highlighted, and a little camera will display. Click on your mouse or trackpad, and you will hear the picture being taken.
Then in the reply box here, click Command/V to paste the image into your reply. You can size it down by clicking in the upper left-hand corner and pulling toward the center when you see the little inverted "T".
In the mean time, have you rebooted your Mac? Just checking....
