apple tv yamaha rx-v2700

I was curious if anyone has had success using Apple TV through a receiver. I have an older Yamaha RX-v2700 which manages the TV, Surround Sound, multiple zones, etc. and would like to stream content on a Mac to the system. The receiver is designed for Windows Media Player for wwireless streaming so I though perhaps Apple TV, hard-wired into the receiver might be a good work around. Thoughts?

AppleTV 2, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

The APPLETV device uses Optional Audio for sound only transmission, and that should work fine on the Yamaha (not familier with the device, so I am assuming it has an optical audio port).

Based on website specs, you should be able to use the HDMI into it. It appears to handle HDMI switching (correct?). I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Guess the only way to know for sure is to hook it up and give it a go. 😀

Post back if you do try it. I'm in the market for a new receiver in the next year of so, and considering Yamaha (among other brands).
