file could not be converted

Trying go sync a song purchased in iTunes store and it won't sync to my phone. Says "file could not be converted." Tells me I need to convert it to AAC. File extension on the "where" part in the info section is .m4a. But if I look above that, it says the "kind" of file is AAC. What the what?!
