vertical spacing in LaTeX equations

I've got an equation nicely aligned but the lines themselves are very close vertically ~ I've tried \setlength {\jot}{12pt} and similar but this doesn't seem to be supported... anyone know how to use \setlength or other command in LaTeX in ibooks author to space out equations? Thanks
