Q: Original Apple bluetooth keyboard and Apple TV

Hi all,

Does anyone know the reason that the original Apple bluetooth keyboard will not work with Apple TV ?

The keyboard work's just fine with my Mac Mini (Late 2012).  On their support documents Apple States many 3rd party BT keyboards will work with ATV, but not their own BT keyboard, no reasons given.

makes no sense to me.

thanks for any replies.

Thats a very good question. It is probably something to do with the hardware components of that keyboard.

    System requirements

    • Apple TV (2nd generation or later)
    • Apple TV Software 5.2 or later
    • Apple Wireless Keyboard *

Third-party Bluetooth keyboards that use the Apple keyboard layout may also be compatible. Check with the keyboard manufacturer for additional information.

    * The original Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003), that features a white case and uses four AA batteries, is not compatible.

It works just Fine on brand new Mac's, so what's the issue ?   Apple is allways pushing how 'green' of company they are, one would think they wouldn't have choosen to make a perfectly good keyboard a paper weight.  I'd just like to know the exact reason it will not work.
