Is coughing up $250 for fusion drive worth it?
I was gonna get the base model 27" iMac. First one ill ever own. I just can't decide if paying extra for the fusion drive is gonna be worth it or not. Is there a BIG difference?

a few miliseconds on commonly performed tasks, only you can value your time. I love it but prefer the 1TB over the 3TB.
You are paying for the addition of an SSD plus the HDD joined together. So you aren't paying for anything special - just an SSD and HDD configured as a Fusion Drive. You can do some Google searching on your own to learn more about them.
I created one myself in my 2011 MacBook Pro. Love it. Originally had a 240GB Intel SSD. Got an Optibay to install the original 750GB drive into. Now I've got the storage I need with the speed I've grown accustomed to.
I'd highly recommend it, especially on the newer iMacs where replacing/swapping hard drives isn't done quite as easily.
