Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with my intel imac and in desperate need of help !
My computer stopped responding on Friday night where the cursor would still move about, but every other aspect would not work.
I since restarted and now every time I start-up it hangs once finder appears, sometimes with BBOD other times with just the cursor - I cannot force-quit or select anything, but the mouse does respond.
It boots into safe mode ok - and I have 3 different logins which all do the same thing when I change the startup account to any of those, so it doesn't seem to be affecting just the one user account.
The only thing I had done that day was installed the security fix via software update that morning, but worked fine all day.
I've been encountering this as well, on launch of PPC applications. The problem started exactly as soon as I got the Security Update 2006-003 (Intel). You may try to kill off your login items from one of your safe boots. Probably one of them is a Rosetta-emulated app.
I tried trashing all my startup items but no luck - here is my console log if someone could please be kind enough to troubleshoot it for me:

I had the same problem yesterday after converting a word file into adobe pdf.
I tried with the "fsck" command on the console but everything seems to be ok.
Naturally everything happpened after installing the security update...
Did you resolve your problem?
I'm encountering a similar problem... except that I can't even reach the desktop, I just stay stuck at the "start-up" window.
this also happened after I installed the security update on Friday...
I did not restard my computer right away, but I noticed that all my address book contacts, my mail and safari data had vanished (and were nowhere to be found on my computer) so then I restarted my computer, and I've been unable to get back to my desktop ever since...
I'm currently using a backup disk but all the data seems to be gone from my pb's hard drive... I'm not sure this problem is also linked to the update, but if anyone has a solution, please help!
I did the update this morning and my system is down in the same manner as you. Wonder if there's a way of rolling back to before the update and how long before Apple get a fix?
I did the normal stuff "boot in safe mode, run disc repair" but still not working and I need my Mac urgently. HELP
There's PRAM restting that may or may not help, but
my last suggestion would be to backup all your critical data (safe mode), then install the combo 10.4.6 updater.
Maybe some more knowing than I can offer a better suggestion like Dr. Smoke.

I restarted in safe mode by holding down the shift key and then removed Adobe Version Cue from the startup items folder as this is a widely reported error. All working fine now and Apple should really post this information.
Worked for me only I uninstalled Version Cue as mine wasn't in the startup items.
