How do I determine available disc space on a MacBook Air?
Click the apple icon on the top left corner of the screen and choose "About this Mac".
Click "More Info..." and then the "Storage" tab.
Voila!

Select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) in the sidebar of a Finder window. and open the Info window (command-I). Look for Available in the General section of the window.
The Storage display shows free space, not available space directly. They're not necessarily the same.
