Why did Mail 6.2 suddenly show a not online symbol in the inbox?

The offline symbol was in the inboc but now it's gone. Seems like iclund is having some trouble. Can't change anyting in ther Mila Prefs accounts except the password. Everything else is grayed out. Have reset the password several times and chnged it in my Apple account and in the Mail Prefs Account. Right this minute it is working just fine. Any clues? Yesterday I was able to get on the iCloud sire and check my mail but I couldn't get on with Mail if that helps.
