activesync not working on ios6.1

I purchased a new iPhone5 running iOS6.1 and can not get activesync to pull anything in from gmail. I do not get contacts, calendars, or mail. During the setup it appears to authenticate just fine, but when I goto Mail it just says "Can not get mail". Nothing appears to be syncing like it did before. Is this a known bug with iOS6.1 or an issue with Google changing something. I've read where GMail is not going to support ActiveSync but that doesn't seem to be the case on my other iphone5 which works fine on the same iOS and same setup.
