Rather than burning a dvd of each imovie project again I would prefer

to store all finalized projects on an external HD, ready to play

on Playstation 3 or any pc with the option to choose which project to play.

Similarly, I would no longer have to consider the size of the project

versus the capacity of a dvd.

However, after successfully burning a dvd (playing on both PS3 and pc)

I dragged the DVD.dvdproj to an external HD (formatted for MAC), but then

the project cannot be played on PS3 or pc.

Why is it that the burnt dvd works, but the same on ext.HD does not?

Could anybody tell me how I must proceed, or is it not possible at all?

Are you referring to the iDVD project file or a disk image of the iDVD project?

If it's the project file it could be that the links to the source material have been broken. Try using the File ➙ Archive Project menu option and put the archived project file on the EHD. That copies all of the source material into the project package so the file can be moved without breaking links.
