Feb 15, 2013 8:46 AM in response to NJMA27by MichelPM,Is the version of OS X a clean install?
If you acquired this IMac is there any third party apps other than what is installed on it?
You need to see if there is any antivirus software or hard drive "cleaning" software like MacKeeper or something similar installed?
If so, you need to uninstall these types of apps.
This could be just one issue that is causing your Internet connection slowness.

VLC is the only software I've installed yet, I haven't put any antivirus or something else.

Feb 15, 2013 9:12 AM in response to NJMA27by MichelPM,MBP=MacBook Pro.
Depending on how many home/local devices are accessing your WiFi router and Intenet connection at once this could be causing some of your slowdown.
Plus, Intenet speeds vary depending upon how people access your Internet Sevice Provider at any one moment.
How many devices are accessing your home WiFi?

Feb 15, 2013 11:00 PM in response to NJMA27by NJMA27,updated!
after reading forums from different sites, one tip worked! I just need to change the channel of my router. previously we are in channel 1 and we're using this one ever since , afterward, we changed it to channel 11 and seems like nothing has changed. then now I changed to channel 8, then boom!! it's bloody fast ( just comparing from the other to channels)
based on speedtest result up is 29, down is 1.8. compared to my macbook pro which only had about 14 down and .80 up.
anyway, thank you all guys for helping me.

Feb 16, 2013 2:30 AM in response to NJMA27by BonanzaNLD,I am still having the same issue. Can someone explain how it is possible that on my old mac, I get speeds like 45Mbit/s and with my new mac (late 2012) a mere 2.6Mbit/s (measured a couple of times)? They connect via the same airport express/router and modem. Check the picture. It does not make sense. Any ideas?
