My contacts on my iphone keep disappearing

My contacts on my iphone keep disappearing. I have a complete backup in icloud of 296 contacts but when I restore, the 296 initially showup but then majority disappear in a few minutes down to only 18 contacts. I was syncing my iphone with my Google account via an app that replaced & merged between the two. Could there be a virus causing this? I now only have the 18 contacts in my Google Contact account so I really need to recover from icloud this information. Can I view it in icloud? No contacts show up in my icloud account under the Contact tab. Help! I am looking for a job and I need this info bad.
