having trouble dragging apple loops

I am having trouble getting my loops to drop over to the editing side in my Garage band

I have done this many times and never had an issue before.

I had a .wav file thinking that I needed to convert it to an .mp3 but that didn't work.

I've already imported it to itunes and it shows up in the finder in the garage band

but still no luck

Darn thing don't drop after dragging

any suggestions?
