My never used Macbook is Slowwww

I have a late 2009 Macbook.

It has never been used, only 1 cycle on the battery.

It takes 10 minutes to simply turn on, hours to upload & install updates, that's if the install is successful.

Over the last couple days, I have reinstalled Snow Leopard and installed new ram. Have also run Disc Utility "Verify & Repair" hard drive

Still, everything is extremely slow on the computer.

I have tried to run the diagnostics program by starting and holding the D key but it will not run.

There are no other programs or anything installed except for Snow Leopard.

Any ideas?
