Permission problem with Excel docs

My husband uses Excel Mac 2004 on his MacPro with OS 10.6.8. Under System Prefs he is listed as "admin," as I am. However, on several of his excel docs he receives a "read-only" message when he tries to save changes. If I go into the get info window, and unlock with the system password, I am still unable to change the permission: Read-only is the only option I get. How can I correct this problem, and is there a way to globally correct it on all his Excel docs?

In the Get Info window, who is listed as Owner & Group? In rhat Window, is the Locked box checked?

Might try BatchMod, it's much better/easier than the Finder for recursive Permission changes, but careful, it's powerful...

Once open drag those files to it's icon, or better yet the folder holding all these files, set rights, check the apply to enclosed items box.
