In response to stedman I don't think I am alone in finding apple products frustrating. When we first got Apple TV the film downloaded in 5 minutes, but since then, despite a 8mps download speed, the films take hour or days to download, the only difference is an apple update. Nothing I have posted is vague or misleading. Internet on the iphone5 is awful. Bluetooth is awful. Signal is awful. Great music players, good for apps and my iPad is great for browsing, but the products are flawed.

And as I stated, what have YOU done to troubleshoot the issue? Posted any questions here in the appropriate format and forum? Reset your router? Updated the firmware on your router?

Ok specific question. My Apple TV downloaded a film when we first got it in five minutes. Since then, despite a 8mps download speed it takes hours to download. The most recent example we started to download last Saturday and tonight it is still showing 16 hours to download. How do I increase the download speed?

And as I stated, what have YOU done to troubleshoot the issue? Posted any questions here in the appropriate format and forum? Reset your router? Updated the firmware on your router?

That is specific, and would fall within "terms of use".

stedman1 offered what I would call good routes of investigation when dealing with "internet communcations" issues.

Tried all that with no resolution. All other Internet products work well, fast access and quick download, including other film downloads and BBC I player. The only product that has a download problem is Apple TV. Having spent £100 on the product I would expect better performance. Is there any way of improving its performance.

Internet performance depends on your internet connection you are using. I currently have 4 apple products, none of which are an Apple TV, and have been very satisfied with internet speeds, and have only been limited by the ISP, not the device.

Have you tried using an N-band router set to channel 11? I found that this worked best for me.

All other devices work well in the house, iPad streams videos and I-player well but Apple TV is just awful. Tried a variety of combinations over the last year and none seem to resolve it. If all Internet products in the house were slow I would accept it is the router or broadband but that does not seem to be the problem, it seems to be specific to Apple TV. Almost as if downloads from iTunes were slow, and looking through the forums I am not alone. Is there some fix or update that is needed to increase the speed?

Use Google’s Public DNS Server To Fix Apple TV Streaming Problems

1. Navigate to Settings >> General >> Network and select Configure TCP/IP.

2. Select “Manually” next to Configure IP.

3. Dont change the IP address or the Subnet Mask and Router Address. Just click "Done".

4. Set the DNS Address screen with the following: 008.008.008.008 and click “Done.”

You should now be able to stream more smoothly on your Apple TV.

Thanks for that, I will try tomorrow. Sadly another night wasted waiting for a movie to download. I do not hold out much hope, shame as apple products are beautifully designed, just not sure they perform as well as at they look.
