won't play music after phone update

i've just updated my iphone 5 with the newest software update and no music will play on my phone now. they songs appear, but i am unable to select any to play. they still play from my itunes on my computer. i tried unsycing them all, and resyncing again, but everytime it gets to the final step it stops syncing and no music appears. please help!
