You do not need to use an Equivalent Network Password with DirecTV. Use your normal wireless password

Make sure that the name of your wireless network.......

Contains no special characters like an apostrophe, dollar sign, asterisk, etc.

Limit the wireless network name to only lower case letters and numbers

No spaces in the wireless network name

Limit of 20 characters in the wireless network name

Example:

twhargan's wireless network......will never connect to DirecTV

twharganwireless.....will

Use WPA/WPA2 Personal or WPA2 Personal Security

An 8 character password will work, 12 might work.

No spaces in the password or special characters

A good suggestion i think would be to set the main wireless network to whatever password you want, but create a guest network with a shorter password for the direct tv. However if the direct tv receiver is one of those advanced ones with home networking or DLNA then, the guest network might not be the best solutiion, because it doesn't give guests acess to the main network
