Thank you Niel. So, the only way to update my software is to buy the Mountain Lion software? I just want to make sure I understand that the only way I can get to snow leopard is to first buy or upgrade to Mountain Lion which will then allow me to upgrade to snow leopard and I have to buy them both?

Missy, Heres the link for Snow Leopard. Its cheap. Under $20.

This along with using software update after you install from the dvd will get you up to the last revision of Snow Leopard.

If your Mac meets all of the technical requirements you can upgrade to Lion. It is available through the APPLE Store.

Lion is only available as a Download.
