iPhone 5 - Proximity Sensor always on

Lately i have noticed that the proximity sensor on my iPhone 5 is on whenever the screen is on. I havent enabled the raise to speak Siri function. I have also tried restoring to the latest iOS, even in DFU mode. Is this software related, or sould i take it in for repair?

Best Regards

Exactly. It should only be on during a call, or if you have Siri Raise to Speak on. If it is on all the time it will obviously be using battery- how much, we can only guess? Could be the reason for battery drain issues for many, may not be.

@diesel vdub you can see if your proximity sensor is on in a webcam next to the front speaker if you can't see it with the naked eye.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Until each of these are tried in order, there is no way to know if it will rectify the issue occurring or not. Just because it works or does not work for others, does not mean that it will or will not work for you.

In other words, try the troubleshooting to prove that the issue is or is not a hardware issue with your specific device.
