Lost Ipod and Can't remember password

My son has misplace his Ipod and I when I go to sign into his account on Find My IPhone it says that password is no good. I tried to reset via security questions but none of the birthdays we enter work. I can't do the reset by email because I don't know the password. Any ideas?

iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1

And the worst thing is - I'm sure the IPod is here in the house somewhere!

Ok so we found the device and I activate the mail on it so that I can reset the password. I'm not getting the emails from apple. I sent a test from my email and that's working. Could his account have been hacked?
