Running Apple Hardware test in Leopard without use of DVD drive.

Hi, just looking for some advice on running AHT (or similar diagnostic) on a MacBookPro. Late 2008, model 5,1 running OSX 10.5.8

I do have the original disc to run AHT but it appears that my DVD drive is shot (very limited spinning, ejects after 15 seconds and a couple unsatisfying clicks and pops). Have tried simply holding down D, opt-D, F2 but nothing works without the disc as I don't think this version has an installed diagnostics file.

Tried looking in to this and am hoping there may be a way to download the file to the system or boot AHT off a USB drive. So far I haven't found anything through apple support and only dead ends in other forums.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
