Best way to download YouTube videos for FCP?

Hey All,

I'm downloading YouTube videos for an editing project but FCP doesn't like the files I end up giving it. I download the videos, convert them to ProRes in Compressor and import them into FCP. They play in the Viewer window but not in the Timeline. The dialog bog comes up asking if I want the sequence settings changed to match the clip settings to which I say yes. But the file won't play. A single thin red line above the Timeline Ruler appears denoting an audio issue and the Canvas window displays the message "Unrendered." I think it's because the audo format of the clip is 32-bit floating point which isn't supported by FCP. Then how am I supposed to edit clips without rendering every single clip? Argh! Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

usually, the problem is that although you are converting the video to prores in compressor, by default, the audio is just set to "pass through) in the encoder panel. Change this to "enabled" and set to 48k 16 bit and your problem may be solved.
