photo booth stopped saving pictures

I installed text wrangler and am on 10.7.5 not sure which did it but it no longer will save pictures it says it encounters an error I haven't found any info on here that fixes the issue. I've fixed permissions, it's not checked for 32 bit but that made no difference, I threw out preference files, nothing works. thanks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.5), 2.4 ghz intel core duo 4 gb

Back up all data.

This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

Step 1

If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.

Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.

The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.

Step 2 (optional)

The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select

Utilities Terminal

from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.

In the Terminal window, type this:

resetpassword

That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.

Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.

Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.

Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.

Select

Restart

from the menu bar.

Hi...nothing is appearing. Should I be waiting a long time? I think the issue, from what I'm researching, has to do with changing up from panther way back to Lion. Something to do with User ID being 501 and system being 0 and my permissions not being recognized for myself as the user. I lost an ability to access iweb I think for the same reason and that is a nightmare. i saw a link about changing the user ID to 20 but I'm too afraid to do what was suggested which if I do it wrong I couldn't sign back onto my computer. Some were being told to copy to the desktop and then back into the finder, I did that as well which didn't dislodge this issue. In the meantime nothing shows up in the terminal window as I'm typing to you. Should it be left for an hour or something? Thanks.

I should rephrase about my permissions not matching up...something to do with my permissions as an administrator not being recognized as valid at the root level when going from snow leopard up to Lion because of the ID number being 501 as an administrator no longer being recognized (in Lion) as valid when upgrading from snow leopard. I think this is what the issue is but don't know how to fix it confidently probably by just changing it within the users and permissions editing pages under system preferences ( read in Lion this ID should be 20 to be recognized but I feared trying this and not being able to access my computer if I signed off and signed back on without step by step instructions). I read something about this on a thread and because of the similar issue with iweb I think this is the issue after using all the other "fixes" suggested from changing clicking off 32 bit to changing permissions to the rest if indeed this is true. I'm wondering if Apple has purposely refused to give out the "fix" on this because they're wanting everyone to upgrade to Mountain Lion which has, I assume, an accessible version of Photo Booth optimized for the new operating system. I think that *****, but this is the conclusion I'm reaching after reading all these posts on the subject where no solution has been made easily accessible. I would think they could have fixed this in an update two years ago from reading back on these threads.

"without read and write privileges"...it came back with "system" with read and write privileges and not my name as the user...I realized later this is how it should be and it made no difference either way. As I said, the ID on my administrator, and I checked this after reading this is an issue, is indeed 501. 501 is not the valid ID for Lion to recognize administrator privileges even if I fix permissions to show me as the administrator. It was valid in Snow Leopard and when upgrading it doesn't change over, nor has it for apparently many other people who are experiencing this similar issue and I believe this is the problem and I don't know how to fix it. Thanks.

If you really ran that last shell command and got no output, then you have major problems. I tend to doubt that's what happened, though. Please post a screenshot of the Terminal window after you entered the command.

To take a screenshot, press the key combination shift-command-4. The cursor changes to a crosshair. Select the part of the display you want to show, then click. Or, to capture a single window, press the space bar and then click in the window. Be careful not to include any private information. An image file will appear on your Desktop.

Start a reply to this message. Click the camera icon in the toolbar of the editing window and select the image file to upload it. You can also include text in the reply.

In other words, the read and write privileges are for "system" in photo booth.app which has "0" as an ID but in the photo booth library, I add in my name as the administrator and here is where I think the issue is...as the administrator privileges are not valid in Lion as the ID is 501...there is no way to put "system" in this file permissions (just as it isn't possible in iweb)...so I'm thinking the issue is not being able to access the library as I can't fix the permissions in it....the same with iweb where I can no longer upload the files to disk or to the ftp space but in both cases I can open the actual application.
