Can you block 'shared' computers or servers?

I am looking for a way to control computers turning up in my 'shared' area in Finder. I have another laptop in the house that seems to be continually trying to access my MacBook Pro.

This wouldn't be a problem but it is continually generating a dialog box "Enter your name and password for the server "10.1.1.10"" and then a space for name and password. This dialog box cannot be blocked or cancelled, it is always on to and in the middle of the screen, rendering the use of my MacBook Pro nearly impossible.

At the moment the only way I can use my MacBook Pro [running OSX 10.8.2] is to have the other laptop logged off... how do I just block it???

Hmmm, seems it's your computer trying to Join/access the other one to me.

Check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Thanks, but that does not help - I have 'Guest' disabled on "Check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items".

The issue is this dialog box that continuously forces itself into the centre of the screen. It seems to be a problem with just this laptop - "Nikki-PC" and not any other of the devices on the network

At the moment it means that if this laptop - "Nikki-PC" - is beeing used on the network, my MacBook Pro is unusable.

Yes, for some reason your Mac is trying to join/access that PC for some reason, what Sharing is enabled on that PC?

Did you find nothing in Login Items? I feel there is something on your Mac.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work OK in the new account?
