After updating software, my Apple TV is stuck on "Syncing purchased music." Have given it hours and restarted with no resolution. All other features work fine. Thoughts?

Which Apple TV do you have. The Apple TV 1 is the only one that syncs anything and that doesn't work with photostream.

It sounds like either the Apple TV 2 or 3 which are both black and around 4" square. They don't sync anything though so it couldn't be the Apple TV that was causing the message.
Yes, that is the right description. I did the recommended update and when it restarted, that is the message when I go to the "music" icon. When I select the Music icon anyway it first says "accessing itunes store" then says "apple tv cannot connect to the server at this time."

Do you use iTunes Match, are you able to use the movie and TV show icons.

OK, I'm with you now.
1. First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
2. If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings).You should also try restarting your router.
3. If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).
