BSoD during windows 7 install on Mac Pro

I've got an original Intel Mac Pro and I'm having trouble instlling windows 7 with bootcamp.

I created the driver CD during the inital setup and proceeded to install windows on the blank, 500gig

first drive. The windows install was going along fine until one of the various reboot stages. Now it

comes up with a blue screen of death everytime and says:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The technical information at the bottom seems to be complaining about:

nvlddmkm.sys - Adress 8DED4A80 base at 8DE28000, DateStamp 4a0c7fdb

I can't boot into safe mode because it comes up with a dialog that says it can't finish

installing windows in safe mode, please reboot.

So now I'm stuck in an endless loop of it rebooting, blue screen of death, reboot repeat.

I've got all the firmware updates for my machine and I'm running 10.7.5 with all the latest updates.

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB

Mem: 4 Gigs

Processor 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon

Model Identifier: MacPro1,1

Boot ROM version: MP11.005C.B08

SMC Version: 1.7f10

Any ideas??

During the W7 install, do you see a screen which prompts you to install BC drivers? The goal is to install the correct nVidia drivers between these two screens.

Once the BC drivers installation is complete, you should see this screen and a Restart is initiated at this point.

I'm having this exact problem with exactly the same specs and model and would really appreciate a solution to this that I can see. Unfortunately the link provided in one answer is no longer available so I can't actually get the solution.

The solution says..

The basic problem is that the windows 7 supplied drivers for the video card I have are not very good. You need to boot off the CD, delete the driver that windows installed and then restart into the default lores video. Once you get a fully booted system, download the latest nvidia drivers.

You can only use W7 32-bit on a 2006 Original MP. You will need to boot from the W7 installer on the DVD, remove the driver for the GPU that is installed. This will invoked the default generic VGA driver resulting in a 'low-resolution (lores)' video. Download the latest GPU drivers from nVidia to a USB Flash drive, and connect the USB and run the nVidia installer.

The other option is to download the latest driver for GPU on a USB and install it, before the BC drivers install the 'bad' driver.

You should be prompted for the installation of the BC drivers the first time after Windows is installed. Before you run the BC installer, run the nVidia installer and then continue with the BC Installer.

If you are using only a physical DVD only to install Windows, use a USB2 Flash drive in addition. Download the BC drivers to it. It should have a folder called $WinPEDriver$. Connect this USB2 flash drive also, when using the DVD to install Windows and test.

If that does not work, then you will need to use this link to add the correct nVidia driver from the USB2 to the DVD, before you can use it to install Windows. The link shows how to add the Intel XHCI driver, but the same method applies to the nVidia driver.

Computer blue screen of death is usually related to hardware or driver. It is typically caused by software errors in device drivers: in Windows systems by poorly written device drive . They can also be caused by physical hardware faults, such as faulty RAM memory or power supplies, overheating of components, or hardware which is run beyond its specification limits . On the other hand, registry damage,corrupted program and viruses are the major causes of computer blue screen,too. According to the issue you've got, the following tips may be available to you.

1.An efficiency troubleshooting step on hardware is to start your computer with the minimum hardware necessary to run the operating system. If your computer starts successfully it proves that one of the removed hardware devices was the cause of the STOP message. Otherwise move to the next solution.

2.If the about two solutions doesn't work, the last one I can suggest to you is to create a bootable disk. It is the most quick and effective way for you to solve the problem. You just need to download a software can burn your CD/usb into a bootable one and then boot your computer from it. Run the software to fix the issue after that. There are few free software for you to use, so if you want to take this solution money is indispensable. Windows Boot Genius owns a better cost/performance among other kinds of software I've used. It may be a good choice for you if you have money to pay.

By the way,reinstall your operating system can also help you out if nothing important stores in it.

I haven't tried this yet (I have to wait until I get home) - but it describes the EXACT problem

I'm having and explains how to get around the issue.

The basic problem is that the windows 7 supplied drivers for the video card I have are not very good.

You need to boot off the CD, delete the driver that windows installed and then restart into the default lores video.

Once you get a fully booted system, download the latest nvidia drivers.

I don't actually know how to remove the driver during the installation process. I have the latest drivers for the GPU, but it's a .exe file so won't open in installation.

The thing is though, I can't load any drivers. Windows 7 doesn't install fully, so I can't wait until it's done,- it blue screens after restarting and can't finish the installation.

Neither of these screens appear, after the windows install disc has copied all the files and everything it restarts and comes to the BSoD where I'm in an endless cycle of restarting.
