Endless sustain on software instruments

Hi All,

I have a problem when I record software instruments. When recording any software instruments such as bass and synth from Apple Instrument menu any note played on the track sustains indefinitely as soon as it is played causing an endless blur of sounds all mashed together. Cannot record individual notss without them running on continually. This only appens when a track is recorded, and does not occure when just playing instrument through garage band

Not sure where to look for this problem. Any help appreciated.
