Have I bought the correct RAM module?

Hi,

I've ordered a 16GB kit (8GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM upgrade for my iMac 3.1GHz Intel Quad-Core i5 (27-inch - DDR3) iMac bought brand new in May 2012. Having had a look at the 'More Info' section of About this Mac the memory specification stated adding 2 or 4Gb modules but not two 8's. My new two new ones are going to to be registered by OSX right?

I know that this may sound like a daft question but I thought I'd better ask all the same just to be on the safe side. At present I only have the factory default of 4Gb and I know that I need to remove them and install the two new ones on the from of the memory slots nearest the screen as 16Gb is the max RAM that can be installed.

Thanks in advance...

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

As long as you ordered the correct specs RAM, a total of 20 GB RAM is fine. Make sure you install the new RAM in the two unpopulated slots so they match horizontally.

Where did you order it? OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial?

Here are the complete specs for your machine - and it is a 2011 model (even though you bought it in 2012):
