Will my 2009 MacBook run faster if I upgrade to 4GB ram?

My 2009 MacBook has Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB ram, 2.24 ghz (i believe), and an Intel 3000 graphics card.. i think

Anyways, right now, even Minecraft lags on it. If I upgrade to 4 gb ram, will it be able to run programs like Minecraft and Skyrim?

If you bought it in June of 2009 then it may be a 2.13Ghz Model 5,2 (made May through October 2009) with the removable battery on the bottom. The model 5,2 (Mid 2009, 2.13GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM.

If you bought it On sale in June of 2009 then it may be a 2.0Ghz Model 5,2 (made January through May 2009) with the removable battery on the bottom. The model 5,2 (Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only) can use 6gb of 200 pin 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.0-white -13-early-2009-nvidia-specs.html

2009 was a weird year. There were three models of MacBook made that year. Each one took a different type of RAM.

Oh yea, I remember the bottom had a rubbery surface. I used to call it the "macbook white 2nd generation" because the first macbook had that removable battery where you get a quarter and turn the notch thing. (my computer wasn't like that; it just had screws in the corners.) and I also remember how the bottom panel was a bit of a darker gray while the computer itself was white.

It may be hard to describe here, but I remember it had a round-ish shape to it - unlike the first gen macbook. it seemed like it was made out of shiny plastic..

Nope - unless you want to install a SSD to make your Macbook last for a few more years.

There are some cheaper RAM that might work, but why take a chance.

When I bought my RAM, it was at $50.....The same spec RAM was selling for $45, but was not Apple Certified....So I paid the extra $5 and i have 8GB and spent another $100 for a SSD and now my Macbook boots up at 16 seconds and apps open as soon as i click on them.

Best Buy????? Are you ready for a lot of beeps? Had bad experience....

But here are the brand of RAMs I used in all my Macbooks.

2008 Macbook Uni 2GHz and 2.4GHz - Crucial 8GB DDR3 1066MHz (no issues to this day)

2009 Macbook Uni White 2.26GHz - G.Skill 8GB DDR3 1066MHz (no issues to this day)

You might be able to use what Best Buy sells if the timings are 7-7-7-20. Not all 1066MHz RAM will work with your Macbook.

Best Buy sometimes have good RAM in stock - I bought my 16GB Patriot Mac Series from them for my Late 2011 Macbook Pro with no issues.

Just make sure you are allowed to return them if they don't work for your Macbook.

Go with the following brands if they have them.

Patriot Mac Series - Crucial - Corsair - Kingston (non Value) - G. Skill - Mushkin and Elpidia

Good luck.

Hello,

I've recently been to Best Buy to see if there are any memory card I could buy for this computer. Unfortunately, the only ones they had were 1066. Mine is 1067.

My question is, will my computer run fine even if I install the 1066? Cuz the guy at the store said there wouldn't be any major problems, but I may sometimes encounter several minor errors...
