Java install failed cannot create folder. Mac osx 10.7 Java

So I have been trying for ages to install Java on my Mac OSX 10.7 However whenever I try i always get an error message reading:

The Installer Can't create the folder /var/folders/8b/lbm4fmhx5034tjfkqff62trm0000gn/T//Install.395ShLD8T

For some reason I cannot find the answer In any of the forums, and I cannot open Java Preferences In my utilities. Help, anyone?

Download it from http://www.java.com/ Apple passed the buck to Oracle to continue supporting Java.
