Feb 17, 2013 5:06 AM in response to quimtimby mende1,One thing is the memory you have and a different thing is the hard drive space you have. That message appears because you have got less than 2 GB of memory installed in your Mac.
If you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, you have to install 2 GB of memory at least (I recommend 4 GB of memory or more, if you can).
You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC). Make sure that you choose the memory for your iMac model.
Also, if you need help to install the memory, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423

Feb 17, 2013 5:10 AM in response to stedman1by quimtim,Well, from the disk utility, it says I have 117.34 GB available. I am not a computer person at all so perhaps I am misunderstanding what this is telling me:
Capacity : 124.42 GB (124,419,833,856 Bytes)
Format : Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Available : 117.34 GB (117,341,642,752 Bytes)
Owners Enabled : Yes Used : 7.08 GB (7,078,191,104 Bytes)
Number of Folders : 89,034 Number of Files : 292,500
Where am I supposed to look to find this out?

Feb 17, 2013 5:10 AM in response to quimtimby mende1,Open > About this Mac, and see Memory. That's the amount of memory you have on your computer, and it should be less than 2 GB at this moment

Feb 17, 2013 5:17 AM in response to mende1by quimtim,That was too easy to find!. Yes it does....it has 1 GB. Pardon this really stupid question, but, is it difficult to add memory? Is it something I download from somewhere or physically buy and install? I will also read the post you have given me above.
Thanks!
