Setting up a Password on a WD MyPassPort

I have a Western Digital My PassPort Hardrive (500GB, USB 3.0), and I would like to know how to set a password on my HD.

I tried setting up a password by downloading the WD SmartWare but the Software could not find the Hard Drive. I have not found much luck on Search Engines & Forums on the internet to clearly explain how to set up a Password on MyPassport.

Would appreciate if someone on the Apple Support Communities could help me.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

There is no way to Password Protect a hard drive. Other then with some type of add-on software.

Funny that the WD software couldn't find the drive. But then that is what you get with most of the software distributed with external hard drives, IE Not very well written.

Thanks Shootist007,

On the box it said my Hardrive was capable of setting up a password, but reading reviews for WD Smartware, a lot of users say the software is poorly written which explains why my Drive could not be found. Guess i'll do with out a Password in the end.
