Feb 17, 2013 9:28 AM in response to gogogutby a brody,AirDrop is not supported by older computers, or 10.6.8. You are best off just using file sharing and the DropBox feature of file sharing to ensure communication between the machines: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1549

Feb 17, 2013 5:40 PM in response to gogogutby bernuli,I think you can just use regular old file sharing off XP for that. The apple software is only needed for netboot type stuff I think.
Just right click the d: or whatever drive and click Sharing and Security.

Feb 17, 2013 7:41 PM in response to bernuliby gogogut,Wow! I am not sure I understand either of your suggestions.
a brody: I wasn't trying to do anything with AirDrop. I was trying to use Remote Disc so I could install the new TurboTax by putting the install disc in my PC. For some reason, the Remote Disc pops up perfectly on my work Air, but no such luck on my personal Macbook with Snow Leopard.
bernuli: I right clicked the PC DVD drive and went to Sharing and Security. I turned on sharing but still saw nothing on my Macbook, even after a restart. Where would I see it? How does this process work differently than Remote Disc?
In the end, I think TurboTax is small enough that I can just drag the installer onto a thumb drive and get it on my Macbook. But this issue will come up again. So hopefully I can find out the correct process for getting Remote Disc to work properly on my SL Macbook. Any help now would be great.
Thanks again,
RJ

Feb 17, 2013 7:58 PM in response to gogogutby bernuli,On the Macbook you need to connect to the PC manually. It will not just show up as a drive.
Right click on the finder icon in the Doc, then select Connect to Server, then click the browse button. You should see your PC in there. Double click and continue on.

Feb 17, 2013 8:00 PM in response to bernuliby gogogut,I tried that and it didn't appear. The Browse found my WDTV, but not the PC.

Feb 17, 2013 8:06 PM in response to gogogutby bernuli,Reboot the Windows machine, then wait like 10 minutes. Sometimes win file shares take a while to show up. Could also reboot router.
Check firewall settings on Windows machine. Try with it off for a little while to make sure it works.
